# Arabic Sofa and Majlis Seating in Georgia, USA

## Questions buyers ask

### Is there anywhere in Georgia or the US where I can see the majlis first?

Georgia has no store to visit: every piece is cut, sewn and finished in the Istanbul workshop. To judge a set from home, ask for a video call with finished seating and foam on camera. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.

### Can the set be cut to my own wall lengths, and does a custom size change the quote?

Every custom set is cut to the walls you send. The quote is built from the total running length of seating, together with the model, the seat height or thickness, the build and the backrest style.

## How many guests does an L or a U seat in a Georgia house?

A standard L seats about five to six adults and a U about eight to nine. ACS 5-year estimates from the Census Bureau put 66.3% of Georgia homes in single-family houses and 7.6% in buildings with 20 or more units. The usual plan starts from one long back wall. ## How do you measure a U for a restaurant room or a family living room?

1. Sketch the entrance first, and stop each side run short of the path guests walk in on.
2. Take the back wall first, corner to corner, then follow each side from that wall to where the last seat will sit.
3. Say whether each number is a wall size or a seat length.
4. When both side runs reach the back corners, the back run gives up about 27.5 in (70 cm) at each end: a 144 in (366 cm) back wall leaves 89 in (226 cm) of seat, cut as two equal seats of 44 in (113 cm).
5. Add a photo from each corner and note any floor vent or outlet behind the seating; a cut-out can be built into the base.

One Georgia restaurant owner guessed about 300 in (762 cm) of wall, then sketched a 144 in (366 cm) by 192 in (488 cm) room and found the runs added up to more. Our measuring notes for a majlis show where to start; the majlis planner tests the runs.

## Not too low and not sofa-high: which seat height sits in between?

A seat of 8 in (20 cm) or 12 in (30 cm) sits between a floor cushion and sofa height. A seat of 4 in (10 cm) to 8 in (20 cm) suits a classic floor-style room. A seat of 12 in (30 cm) or the 16 in (40 cm) sofa-height option suits anyone who finds low seats hard to get up from.

For a room where diners reach a table, I would start the comparison at 12 in (30 cm) and 16 in (40 cm).

## How early should you order before Eid, a wedding or a home ceremony?

Order early and give the event date before you pay, so the team can say whether stock and the packing queue make it realistic.

## What arrives, and how, when a set comes to a Georgia address?

Expect two or three boxes for an L and more for larger layouts. A separate [tracking number](https://orientalsofa.com/delivery/) for each box arrives by email once the order ships. Each shipment travels with a commercial invoice: goods, value, weight and materials. Import charges for a US address are stated in your quote.

## How long is Atlanta's porch season, and where does the majlis go in winter?

March to June and August to October average between 64°F (18°C) and 90°F (32°C), so a porch or patio set has a long season. ## Frequently asked questions

### For a seat of 8 in (20 cm), do I get one solid cushion or two 4 in (10 cm) layers?

Both builds exist, and you say which you prefer when you order: 8 in (20 cm) can be one solid block or two stacked 4 in (10 cm) cushions. Stacked layers are not sewn together, so the upper one can be taken off and laid on the floor for a guest.

### Can a rug cover my whole room?

A rug can be made to your room's size as part of a custom majlis; send the floor length and width with your wall measurements. Rugs bought alone come in stock sizes from 31.5 × 79 in (80 × 200 cm) to 79 × 118 in (200 × 300 cm), and a larger floor can take several.

### How tall is the backrest, and can I choose my own colors?

Long backrests measure 37.5 × 16 × 4 in (95 × 40 × 10 cm), so they stand about 16 in (40 cm) tall. Solid colors are chosen by number on the fabric color card, and a few inspiration photos with a rough floor sketch help the designer propose the nearest fabric.

### What is the return policy for a set made to my measurements?

Standard-size items and made-to-measure pieces follow different terms. You see photos and video of the finished pieces before a custom majlis ships. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval. Made-to-measure pieces can't usually be returned for a change of mind — ask us how this applies before you order.
