# Arabic Majlis and Jalsah Seating for Texas Homes, Masjids and Lounges

### Without exact measurements, how much wall do six floor seats need in a living room?

Six standard seats of 75 in (190 cm) give 449 in (1140 cm) of seating, and in a U the two corners each take 27.5 in (70 cm) off the second run, so the walls add up to about 504 in (1280 cm). The final plan comes from your wall lengths, as a short wall may need a custom seat.

## Which suits a Texas media room: a U, an L or two facing runs?

A U suits a room with three free walls, an L suits two, and two facing runs suit a media room whose middle must stay open. Every open end of a run takes an armrest in place of a corner backrest. ## Where does measuring start in a game room or media room?

1. Start with the wall that holds the screen or built-in cabinets; seating cannot run in front of it.
2. Label the walls A, B and C in the order you walk past them: walls of 120 in (305 cm), 156 in (396 cm) and 120 in (305 cm) put the long run in the middle of the U.
3. Leave doorways and openings out of each wall length, and tape the seat depth on the floor to check the walking room in a U.
4. Send photos or a short video with the sketch; any unit works if each number says which.

## How tall should a seat be for a family room, an office lounge or older relatives?

At 8 in (20 cm) a seat keeps the floor-seating feel, at 12 in (30 cm) older relatives get a firmer rise, and at 16 in (40 cm) it sits about as high as a regular living-room sofa. For an office lounge that wants a framed look on a lower seat, a wooden-frame design can also be built as all-foam floor seating, 8 in (20 cm) recommended.

## What closes the gap when a wall is longer than the set you like?

Two standard seats of 75 in (190 cm) placed in one straight run cover 150 in (380 cm), so a 177 in (450 cm) wall is about 27.5 in (70 cm) longer than the set. A made-to-measure add-on, an extra floor seat with its own backrest and armrest in the same fabric, closes the gap without making the whole order custom. The add-on is made to order, so expect two parcels and check each box against its packing list.

Rather than rebuild the set, the team kept the standard U and added a 35.5 in (90 cm) module made of a floor cushion, a backrest and one armrest. He also wanted a bigger rug: the usual one covers about 32 sq ft (3 m²), so he picked a 79 × 118 in (200 × 300 cm) rug over the 55 × 83 in (140 × 210 cm) option. When the second shipment arrived, one armrest and one large backrest were missing, and after some delay they were sent on.

## What can a masjid or community hall order besides a full set?

Loose pieces can be ordered without a full set, which suits a hall adding armrests, pouf pillows and rugs to seating it already has. Pouf pillows measure 27.5 × 19.5 in (70 × 50 cm), so a bigger need usually means more pillows. Rugs can be made to the room's size, and a large room can take several. ## How do hookah lounges and cafés plan wooden bench seating?

A standard wooden bench measures 75 × 27.5 × 16 in (190 × 70 × 40 cm) with its cushion included, and frames also come in 47 in (120 cm), 59 in (150 cm) and 71 in (180 cm). One 75 in (190 cm) bench seats about three people.

## Which months suit a patio majlis in Houston and Dallas?

In Houston, seven months have average highs between 64°F (18°C) and 90°F (32°C) (1991 to 2020 climate normals): February to May and October to December. Dallas has five, March to May, October and November, so a patio majlis there is a spring and autumn set. For a patio, ask for the water-repellent outdoor fabric; the regular range is meant for indoor rooms.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can I order only floor mattresses, without the wooden base?

Full-foam floor seating is its own build: the cushions rest on the floor or a rug with no frame underneath, so they can be moved or regrouped when guests come. A wooden-base build raises the seat on a frame, so name the build first.

### I found an L-shaped majlis photo I love. Can it be made in another color?

A layout from a photo can be reproduced in another color: the designer matches the piece count and seat style and swaps the fabric. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval. Settle the seat height first, as changing it later means redrawing.

### We want a gold fabric. Can we see it before we decide?

On a video call the designer holds each swatch up to daylight, so the sheen reads properly while the agreed layout stays as it is. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order. Production starts only after the fabric is confirmed on the drawing.

### Can matching tables be ordered with the seating?

Matching table sets pair one large center table with four smaller side tables, or come as nesting sets of 5, 7 or 9 pieces. Rugs can be ordered without a seating set.
