# Personalized Arabic Jalsah in Gray Velvet with a Greek-Key Base

The Personalized Arabic Jalsah is a gray velvet Greek-key majlis with seats about 29.5 in (75 cm) deep, cut to the length of each wall for an L, a U or a full room. Black-and-gold meander jacquard wraps every seat base and gold bands repeat on the backrests; on a raised seat of about 16 in (40 cm), more of that border shows.

## Questions buyers ask

### Do you have any floor sofa or majlis sets in stock that can ship right away?

Ready-size floor sets may use listed stock configurations, while this personalized majlis is drawn for the measured room. Ready-made sets are packed soon after payment — ask us for the current dispatch time. Do not substitute that schedule for the production stage of a custom drawing; confirm the selected model and dimensions before agreeing the complete order schedule.

### What seat heights can a custom majlis be made at, and how high is it from the floor?

Custom majlis seats are made at 4 in (10 cm), 8 in (20 cm), 12 in (30 cm) or 16 in (40 cm). Low heights give traditional floor seating, and a raised build at about 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) sits close to sofa height.

## Which modules make up a gray Greek-key jalsah?

| Piece | How many | Size |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Seat module on a Greek-key base | Cut to each wall run | About 29.5 in (75 cm) deep, up to 75 in (190 cm) per piece |
| Channel-stitched backrest | Along every run | Split evenly over the seats below |
| Armrest bolster | One per open end | 19.5 × 8 × 8 in (50 × 20 × 20 cm) on low builds, larger on raised ones |

Nothing comes in a fixed set size, so the piece count follows your room: a wall split into two seats gains a second module and backrest. Other fabrics on the same module system are gathered under [Arabic majlis sofa sets](https://orientalsofa.com/arabic-majlis/).

## How does the meander band travel around your corners?

On an L or a U, the second run stops one seat depth short, because the first run already fills the corner. I always check where the two bands meet on the drawing before judging a layout.

Long walls are divided into pieces of up to about 75 in (190 cm). Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval. In a narrow room the seat can be made shallower, down to about 19.5 in (50 cm)–23.5 in (60 cm).

> A family in Texas sent a room photo and asked for a maroon L-shaped floor sofa for a space of about 132 in (335 cm) by 160 in (406 cm), with seats 4 in (10 cm) thick and four armrests. The buyer even sketched how the two measurements overlapped at the corner, so it was clear the seat depth was counted only once. Our team set out the layout at both 4 in (10 cm) and 8 in (20 cm) and offered the rug, ottoman and pouf pillows as a separate full-set add-on. The family chose the thinner seats and skipped the add-ons. Because the measurements were so clear, no video call was needed. We confirmed the four armrests, attached the seating plan and photos to the order, and the set was made to that drawing.

> A border is where a pattern tells you how it wants to be placed.

## Foam modules or a wooden frame under the Greek-key base?

Both builds are possible: a custom majlis is made either entirely from high-density foam or on an MDF and wood frame with foam seats, and this design can take either. All-foam versions are usually made at 12 in (30 cm) or about 16 in (40 cm), with lower floor-style seats of 4 in (10 cm) or 8 in (20 cm) made on request; wooden-frame versions come at about 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm), never lower.

For relatives who find low seats hard to rise from, 12 in (30 cm) or sofa height is easier. On a raised build more of the black-and-gold band shows, and in a long room I find that worth having.

Expect a firm to medium-firm seat. Seats use high-density polyurethane foam — ask us for the exact density for your build.

## Which grays and golds can the Greek-key base be paired with?

The photographed rooms pair mid-gray velvet with a black-and-gold meander jacquard on the bases and gold bands on the backrests. Solid colors are picked by number from the fabric color card, so the seats can also be made in charcoal or silver gray. Gray velvet looks cool and silvery beside a north window and warmer under evening bulbs.

More rooms in this palette are collected under gray majlis designs. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.

## What do you send to start a gray Greek-key jalsah?

1. Measure every seating wall corner to corner along the floor.
2. Photograph the room from the doorway and from the far corner.
3. Choose a seat height and an all-foam or wooden-frame build.

My pairing for this design is gray seats, a white rug with black knot medallions and champagne sheers, so the gold stays on the bases. More pairings are in the guide to majlis color combinations. Custom orders are photographed and filmed for your approval before they ship.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can the gray Greek-key jalsah be made as a single straight run?

A single wall works as well as an L or a U, because the modules are cut to the runs you send. A straight run simply ends in an armrest at each open end.

### Where do the joints fall when a long wall gets the Greek-key base?

Each seat piece is at most about 75 in (190 cm) long, so a longer wall is split into modules, and the layout drawing marks every joint so the meander band lines up.

### Can this jalsah be made without any gold?

Most models can drop the gold entirely, so the bases can be made in plain charcoal or black instead. Some patterned fabrics are not woven in true black, and a very dark charcoal is then the closest match.
