# High-Quality Materials Jalsah on Carved Wooden Frames

Raised on carved frames, a wooden frame majlis sofa keeps the wall-to-wall majlis layout at sofa height: foam seats sit about 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) from the floor and about 29.5 in (75 cm) deep, with backrests, two armrest styles and matching pillows. Each wall run is cut to your room in pieces of up to 75 in (190 cm).

## Questions buyers ask

### Can the carved-frame majlis sit lower if someone prefers the floor?

On the carved frame, seats sit at about 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm), and wooden-base seating is not made lower. The same design can be made as all-foam floor seating instead, at 4 in (10 cm), 8 in (20 cm) or 12 in (30 cm), for a family that likes to sit close to the floor.

### Are the carved panels on this majlis solid wood?

Wooden-frame models use solid wood or MDF for the base and back, and the carved back panels are MDF. The design team marks on your layout which parts of each run are framed and which are foam.

## What does a carved-frame majlis quote include?

| Piece | How many | Size |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Seat module | One or more per wall run | Up to 75 in (190 cm) long, about 29.5 in (75 cm) deep |
| Corner module | One per inside corner | About 39 × 39 in (100 × 100 cm) on raised builds |
| Backrest | Two per seat | Each about half the seat length |
| Armrest | Two to four on a small L | Straight or round style |
| Matching pillow | To order | In the seat fabric |

Covers and foam come with every piece, and the designer spaces the armrests so a long run does not feel crowded. Tables, rugs and curtains in room photos are separate add-ons. Carved frames sit beside sedir benches in our [wooden bench majlis collection](https://orientalsofa.com/cedar-arabic-majlis/).

## How is a 146 in (370 cm) wall cut into seats?

No single seat runs longer than about 75 in (190 cm), so a 146 in (370 cm) wall gets two 73 in (185 cm) seats and a 100 in (254 cm) wall two of 50 in (127 cm). I prefer two equal seats to one long and one short, because the backrests above them then match.

Seats are about 29.5 in (75 cm) deep on a raised majlis. A narrow room can take seats of about 19.5 in (50 cm) to 23.5 in (60 cm), and deeper ones up to about 33.5 in (85 cm) are made on request. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval.

## Is 16 in (40 cm) the right seat height for older guests?

| Seat height | Build | Suits |
| --- | --- | --- |
| 4 in (10 cm) to 8 in (20 cm) | All-foam floor seating | Prayer rooms, close-to-the-floor sitting |
| 12 in (30 cm) | All-foam floor seating | Guests who want a little more height |
| 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) | Carved wooden frame | Elders, near a regular sofa |

For guests who find low seats hard to leave, 16 in (40 cm) is the comfortable end of the range. Foam in the seats is firm to medium-firm, and a softer or firmer fill is available on request. Seats use high-density polyurethane foam — ask us for the exact density for your build.

> A buyer in Georgia came from an ad for complete room sets and asked for a rough plan for a room described only as 4 by 6, delivery included. Our team shared the catalogue and explained that rugs, curtains and tables could also be made once measurements were provided. The model first chosen had seats 8 in (20 cm) thick, so we listed the other heights: 4 in (10 cm), 12 in (30 cm) and 16 in (40 cm). The buyer asked to see the tallest option, liked one of the most requested full-height designs, and confirmed the room was 157 in (400 cm) by 236 in (600 cm). The plan covered Turkish velvet, floor cushions, backrests, two armrest styles and pillows. A phone call was arranged for the next morning to settle the details.

> Thickness is a decision about how you sit down and stand up, not only about looks.

## Which fabrics and colors can replace the brown upholstery?

The room in the photos pairs brown upholstery with carved wood. The same frames can be covered in velvet, chenille, linen-look weaves, cotton-polyester blends or plain faux leather, with gold accents optional on most models. Plain colors come by number from our fabric color card, including shades we have not photographed.

Gilded and carved bases at full room scale appear in palace majlis designs. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.

## What happens between your measurements and production?

- Which runs stand against a wall, and which face into the room?
- Do you want seats at 16 in (40 cm), or a lower all-foam version?
- Which fabric family, and does the gold trim stay?

Wooden pieces take longer to make than foam sets — ask us for the current schedule. The design team sends the layout first, with every seat, corner and armrest marked. Custom orders are photographed and filmed for your approval before they ship. [How we work](https://orientalsofa.com/how-we-work/) walks through each step from first message to delivery.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can a run of this majlis stand away from the wall?

A run with a wooden base and a wooden backrest can stand in the middle of a room, for example facing a television. Runs with cushion backrests need a wall behind them, and metal back supports can be added on request.

### Can storage be built under the seats?

Storage under the seat is possible on wooden-base builds, and some wooden-frame models include built-in drawers. Mention it with your measurements so the design team can draw it into the frames from the start.

### Will outlets and floor vents stay usable behind the majlis?

Cut-outs for floor vents and power outlets, or an MDF airflow section, can be built into the base. Mark each one on your sketch with its distance from the nearest corner.
