# Premium Yemeni Jalsah in Taupe with Fringed Armrests

Plain taupe velvet seats and backrests rest on ivory bases printed with amber-gold baroque scrolls in the Premium Yemeni Jalsah, with a gold fringe along the foot of each base and fringed covers on the armrests. Keeping the print below the seat makes the jalsah a baroque print base majlis, with plain backrests 16 in (40 cm) high above the scrolls.

## Questions buyers ask

### Is a baroque print base majlis harder to keep clean than a plain one?

Covers unzip and can go through a gentle 86°F (30°C) machine wash with a mild detergent, and heat should be kept away because it can shrink them. The ivory print sits low, near feet and floor dust, so decide at the order stage whether a darker base suits your household.

### Can the printed base be cut to any length, even a short filler piece?

A few patterned designs are made only as full 75 in (190 cm) modules, some skip half-size pieces, and very short custom fillers can end up in plain fabric. Ask how the shortest piece in your layout will look, so the print still reads as one line.

## What is each piece of the taupe jalsah made of?

| Piece | On this design | Size or count |
| --- | --- | --- |
| Seat module | Taupe velvet top on an ivory base printed with gold scrolls, gold fringe below | 75 in (190 cm) at most, 29.5 in (75 cm) deep |
| Backrest | Plain taupe velvet with thin gold piping lines | Two to a seat, each 16 in (40 cm) high |
| Sculpted armrest | Printed cover and a fringed throw with a gold band | Roughly 10 × 10 × 21.5 in (25 × 25 × 55 cm) for raised seats |
| Round bolster | Taupe, finished with a tassel | 19.5 × 8 × 8 in (50 × 20 × 20 cm) |
| Pillow | X-cross design in brown and ivory | Counted on the layout drawing |

Under the fabric you choose between two builds. One is foam all the way down. The other sets the foam on an MDF and wood frame, at 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) depending on the model. Within our [Yemeni jalsah and majlis designs](https://orientalsofa.com/yemeni-majlis/), this one keeps the seat plain and lets the base carry the pattern.

## How many armrests should a taupe jalsah have, and what shape?

Armrests are spaced by the design team so the seating never looks crowded. Two to four suit a small L. A big U wants six or more. You choose straight or round.

> A buyer wrote in Arabic asking how to order a Yemeni diwan for the guest hall of the family home, then switched to English to send measurements: an L-shaped corner with walls of 120 in (305 cm) and 144 in (366 cm). The family wanted only the complete diwan set, without rug or table. The proposal was a full-sponge model with a 16 in (40 cm) seat and two armrest styles. The buyer asked specifically about high-resilience foam and was given the seat foam specification. They preferred the armrest shape from another numbered model, which was swapped in, and insisted on seven or eight armrests and light pillows. The tailor confirmed every detail and sent progress updates while the set was being made.

I would fix the armrest count before choosing fabric. Every armrest adds a cover, a throw and a length of fringe.

## How does the print stay in line along your walls?

Each wall is shared out in equal seats, none longer than 75 in (190 cm). Equal pieces keep the scrolls and medallions evenly spaced, and I would rather see two even seats than one long seat and a stub. A 150 in (380 cm) wall, for example, takes two 75 in (190 cm) seats and four 37.5 in (95 cm) backrests.

At a corner, one run stops short by the seat depth, so the print turns on a separate corner piece. More bases in this spirit appear under palace-style majlis with printed and lattice bases. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval.

## Can the taupe velvet and ivory print be made in other fabrics?

Turkish velvet is the main cloth, with chenille, linen-look weaves and cotton-poly blends beside it. Any color or pattern in that range can go on this model, and gold accents are optional. Compare them on our page of [velvet, chenille and linen majlis fabrics](https://orientalsofa.com/fabrics/). Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.

## Low or raised, foam or frame: what must be settled before the fabric is cut?

- Whose knees decide the seat height in this room?
- Which walls take seats, and what interrupts them: doors, sockets or vents?
- How many armrests, and which shape at each run end?

Answer those three, my friend, and the layout drawing has what it needs. Before cutting, the team reads everything back to you: design, wall lengths, seat height and fabric code. Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule. Progress photos come along the way. Custom orders are photographed and filmed for your approval before they ship.

> Chalk marks wash out. Wrong measurements do not.

## Frequently asked questions

### Can the taupe seats go on a different base print?

Any color or pattern from our fabric range can be chosen on this model, so the ivory scroll print can give way to another print or to a plain base. The layout drawing then shows the new fabric code on every base before cutting starts.

### Can the taupe jalsah be made low, closer to floor seating?

The same look can usually drop to 8 in (20 cm), half the raised height, and 4 in (10 cm) works as all-foam floor seating. The wooden-frame build is the exception: it stays at 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm).

### Is there room inside the taupe jalsah to keep spare cushions?

Only the wooden-base build leaves room for storage, and certain framed models include drawers. An all-foam jalsah is solid foam to the floor, so pick the frame if you want somewhere to keep spare cushions.
