What Buyers Notice After Their Majlis Arrives

Buyers of majlis and floor sofa sets tend to notice the same handful of things: how small the vacuum-packed boxes are, how firm the foam feels, how the fabric shade compares with the photos and how neatly each cover is finished. Each theme on this page sums up what buyers notice, including the surprises worth knowing before you order.

What surprises buyers when the boxes arrive?

Buyers often mention how small the boxes look for a whole set of seating.

Cushions travel compressed and vacuum-sealed, then spring back to full size once the bags are opened; they cannot be squeezed flat again at home.

A set is split across several boxes, usually two or three for an L-shape and more for a bigger layout, and they do not always arrive on the same day.

A few buyers also notice a packing smell when the bags are first opened, and it fades once the pieces air out in a ventilated room.

How firm do the seats feel compared with a Western sofa?

Firmness divides opinion. Many buyers describe the foam as supportive and easy on the back, while others, used to deep and soft sofas, find it harder than they expected at first.

Floor sofas and full-foam majlis have no springs and no internal frame, so the foam alone sets the feel.

  • The 4 in (10 cm) and 8 in (20 cm) heights are the everyday choices, low enough for tea and floor gatherings.
  • Seats of 8 in (20 cm) come either as two stacked 4 in (10 cm) cushions or as one solid block, and you choose which when you order.
  • Throw pillows along the backrests give a softer lean for anyone who prefers it.

Do the fabric colors match the photos?

Many buyers say the color arrived as pictured. A smaller group finds a shade a little darker or warmer than it looked on screen, since screens, daylight and lamplight all change how velvet and woven fabrics read.

Solid shades are picked from a numbered fabric color card, which also lets a set be made in a shade that has not been photographed yet.

To compare shades in your own daylight and lamplight, ask for the majlis sample box before you decide.

Which finishing details do buyers point out?

Buyers often describe the stitching and the way a pattern carries on from one cushion to the next.

  • Walls longer than about 75 in (190 cm) are split into two or more equal seats, which keeps a medallion or a stripe lined up along the run.
  • Zipped covers can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle with a mild detergent; heat can shrink them, so keep them away from the dryer.
  • Custom orders are photographed and filmed for your approval before they ship.

Where do buyers put their sets besides the living room?

Several buyers use their sets in guest rooms, because the top layer of a stacked seat comes off as a floor mattress for overnight visitors.

Others mention reading corners, meditation and prayer rooms, children's playrooms, balconies and window seats, where made-to-measure cushions fit a frame or nook that a standard sofa would not.

What do buyers wish they had known before ordering?

  • Floor seating is firm by design, so expect support rather than a sink-in feel.
  • Backrests lean against the wall unless the set has a wooden or MDF frame, so a run with no wall behind it needs a framed build, or a back support for that side on request.
  • Armrest bolsters that are not fixed to the base are easy to move, but they can shift when someone leans on them.
  • Every wall needs measuring from corner to corner, and the printable measuring worksheet keeps the numbers in one place.
  • After washing, a snug cover slides back on more easily if the foam is gently folded first.

Frequently asked questions

Is there someone nearby who bought a majlis from you, so I can see one before ordering?

Past buyers' names, addresses and contact details stay private, so the team never passes them on. Instead, it can send photos and videos of a similar model or show finished pieces on a live video call. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.

How long should vacuum-packed cushions rest before the first guests sit on them?

About a day after the bags are opened is enough for the cushions to regain their full shape. Unpack within roughly a week of delivery, ideally in a ventilated room, and lay each piece flat while it recovers.
