The Oriental Sofa catalog gathers all majlis and floor sofa designs in one place: custom Arabic majlis, kilim-weave and velvet floor sofa sets, sedir benches on pine frames, diwans and Moroccan floor couches, plus rugs and mosaic lamps for the same room. Most models can be made in any color from our fabric range, and seat heights run from 4 in (10 cm) to 16 in (40 cm).

Questions buyers ask

Do you have a catalog where I can see all your majlis and floor sofa models?

The designs are grouped by family on these pages, and the team can also send photos or short videos of any design by message or email if you do not use social media. Send a screenshot of a design you like, including embroidered and patterned ones, and the designer quotes it for your room measurements.

Can I buy just the rug on its own, without the sofa, or a rug to match a majlis I already have?

Rugs can be bought on their own, either the set-size kilim or a larger size, including a rug to match a majlis you already own. Send a photo or short video of your seating in the room, its color and the floor area you want covered, and the designer suggests rug designs that suit your fabric and quotes your size. Several rugs can ship together.

About All designs

Which seating families does the catalog cover?

Five seating families fill the catalog, and each one is built a different way. Custom majlis are made to order for each room. Floor sofa sets and diwans come in standard pieces you can count. Sedir benches lift a seat cushion onto a pine frame, and Moroccan floor couches sit lowest of all. Filters narrow the list by type, layout, thickness, pattern, color and fabric. The made-to-measure side starts with Arabic majlis sofa sets.

How do majlis, floor sofas and benches differ in build and seat height?

Build and seat height are the two choices that separate the families most clearly.

Seat depth differs as well, at about 27.5 in (70 cm) on floor sofa sets and about 29.5 in (75 cm) on custom and raised majlis. Where someone at home finds the floor hard to leave, I go no lower than 12 in (30 cm). A classic low room or a prayer room sits well at 4 in (10 cm) or 8 in (20 cm).

What can change on a design, and what stays fixed?

Color, seat height and length change on most designs, while a few models keep fixed module sizes. Solid colors are picked by number from a fabric color card. A set can be made in a shade not yet photographed. Seat depth can drop to about 19.5 in (50 cm)–23.5 in (60 cm) for a narrow room. On request, it can grow to about 33.5 in (85 cm). Every change is cut into the foam and the cover together. A cover should fit the foam the way a good jacket fits the shoulders.

  • Each seat piece stops at about 75 in (190 cm), so a longer wall is split into two or more cushions
  • Some velvet and patterned models come only in standard 75 in (190 cm) modules with fixed backrest shapes
  • Custom layouts add cut-to-length seats and small filler pieces, so each wall is filled without gaps
  • Most designs can be built with or without a wooden base and backrests

Which room pieces go with the seating?

Besides seating, we supply matching rugs, curtains and table sets, so one order can dress the whole room. Rugs are flat-woven in a kilim style rather than deep pile. Stock rugs run from 31.5 × 79 in (80 × 200 cm) up to 79 × 118 in (200 × 300 cm), though not every size comes in every design. Rugs can also be made to the size of a room, or ordered without any seating.

Turkish mosaic lamps, in table, floor and hanging designs, sit in the same catalog. Curtains are made to measure for each window, either floor-length or to backrest height.

How do you check a design against your walls?

Measure each wall from corner to corner, then compare it with the seat lengths in the design. I always ask for those wall lengths before anyone talks about fabric. One seat cushion of 75 in (190 cm) seats two to three people. A longer wall is split into equal cushions, which keeps the pattern aligned and lets each piece be vacuum-packed.

Doors, radiators and low windows decide where a run can stop, so mark them on your sketch before you choose a layout.

Which details of a set stand out first?

Buyers tend to notice the covers first: the seams, the zippers and the pattern lining up across pieces. The seat foam is firm to medium-firm, and softer or firmer filling can be requested.

What happens after you pick a design?

Ask us for a design consultation — we can talk through your room on a video call. A custom majlis is quoted from the total running length of seating, the model, the seat height and the build. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval. Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule. Custom orders are photographed and filmed for your approval before they ship. Our majlis and floor seating are cut, sewn and finished in Istanbul, as our atelier story explains, while Moroccan-style covers are handmade in Morocco.

Which layouts does each seating family come in?

Custom majlis are cut to each wall as a single run, an L or a U, while floor sofa sets come as 10, 14 or 19 pieces for one, two or three walls. Sedir benches come in sets of one, two or three benches, and Moroccan floor couches in four set lengths.

How deep are the seats in each family?

Floor sofa sets, sedir benches and Moroccan floor couches are all about 27.5 in (70 cm) deep, while custom and raised majlis seats are about 29.5 in (75 cm) deep. A custom majlis can also be made shallower or deeper on request, so note the depth you want next to your wall lengths.

Which designs in the catalog have the firmest seat?

The Sedir Bench line sits firmer than our all-foam sets, which is why it is a common choice for cafés and restaurants. Foam floor sofa sets and custom majlis are firm to medium-firm, and softer or firmer filling can be requested when you order.
