Brown-Detailed Yemeni Jalsah
Arabic Majlis · L & U
Handmade in Istanbul
The Arabic Yemeni Majlis is a beige and gold Yemeni majlis cut to each wall, with beige seats about 29.5 in (75 cm) deep and beige or gold accent pillows. Gold-edged coffee tables come as a separate set, so the gold can sit on the tables alone or be left out, and the beige can lean warmer or cooler.
The full piece list with sizes is below.
Cushions are pressed, rolled and vacuum-sealed for shipping and spring back to full size once you open them; they can't be re-compressed at home.
Your set ships in several boxes, typically two or three for an L-shape and more for larger layouts, and they may arrive on different days.
Every box gets its own tracking number, emailed as soon as your order ships.
Each shipment travels with a commercial invoice that lists the goods, their value, weight and materials.
Covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle with a mild detergent; avoid heat, which can shrink them.
If someone at home finds low seats hard to get up from, choose 12 in (30 cm) or the 16 in (40 cm) sofa-height option; 4 in (10 cm) to 8 in (20 cm) suits a classic floor-style room or a prayer room.
| Seat height | Height from the floor | Sits like |
|---|---|---|
| 4 in (10 cm) | 10 of 40 cm | Classic floor-style seating |
| 8 in (20 cm) | 20 of 40 cm | The usual low seat, close to the floor |
| 12 in (30 cm) | 30 of 40 cm | Easier to get up from than a low seat |
| 16 in (40 cm) | 40 of 40 cm | About the seat height of a regular sofa |
Most raised majlis designs can also be made at 8 in (20 cm), keeping the same look at half the height.
Ready-size floor sets use listed cushion dimensions and package options. A custom Yemeni majlis follows a drawing made from your wall lengths, with its build and component sizes confirmed before cutting. Compare the actual specification rather than using the word premium to assume a particular frame or set of accessories.
From the atelier
A majlis measured to your room is usually quoted as seating only: seats, backrests, armrest bolsters and pillows. Rugs, ottomans, coffee table sets and curtains are optional extras with their own lines, so gold-edged tables can be left out or matched to your room.
From the atelier
The seat foam is firm to medium-firm; softer or firmer filling can be requested.
A custom majlis quote covers seat cushions, backrests, two styles of armrest and matching pillows, all with covers and filling; tables, rugs and curtains are separate add-ons.
Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule.
| Piece | Where it goes | Size |
|---|---|---|
| Seat module | Along each wall, in equal lengths | Up to 75 in (190 cm) long, about 29.5 in (75 cm) deep |
| Corner seat | One at every inside corner | Drawn on your layout |
| Backrest | Two over each full-length seat | 37.5 × 16 × 4 in (95 × 40 × 10 cm) |
| Corner backrest | Where two runs meet | 23.5 × 16 × 4 in (60 × 40 × 10 cm) |
| Armrest | Spaced along each run | 10 × 10 × 21.5 in (25 × 25 × 55 cm) on raised builds |
| Accent pillow | Beige or gold | To order |
Beige keeps the seating calm and lets the gold speak. As with any of our Yemeni couch and sofa sets, there is no fixed piece count, so the list grows or shrinks with your walls. The tables are a separate order: a large table ringed by four smaller ones, or a nest of 5, 7 or 9 pieces.
The photos show a champagne damask room from the same beige-and-gold family.
Seat height, seat depth and the fabric decide how a majlis feels long after the colors are chosen. Heights run 4 in (10 cm), 8 in (20 cm), 12 in (30 cm) or 16 in (40 cm): the lower two keep the classic floor-style sitting, and the higher two are kinder to knees that dislike a deep bend. On a wooden base the seat sits 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) high, depending on the model.
Depth is about 29.5 in (75 cm), or 19.5 in (50 cm) to 23.5 in (60 cm) for a narrow room. I would ask for a close-up video of the beige before deciding. Our notes on custom Yemeni majlis heights, lengths and fabrics go further.
Walls are measured from one corner to the next, with doorways left out, and a long run is shared out in equal seats of no more than 75 in (190 cm): a 165 in (420 cm) wall becomes three seats of 55 in (140 cm). Where two walls meet, the second run begins a seat's depth from the corner, since the first already fills it. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval.
I would keep the gold to the tables in a small room. More warm neutral majlis palettes sit together on one page. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.
Many families start thinking about the guest room a season before Ramadan nights or Eid mornings fill it, so a made-to-measure majlis is best ordered early. Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule. Cutting starts only after you approve the drawing. Custom orders are photographed and filmed for your approval before they ship.
Then comes the first evening, and the first cup of qahwa (Arabic coffee) poured for the eldest guest.
Two rooms can share one order and one fabric, each with its own layout drawing. Send both rooms' walls with a sketch or photos, and say which room gets the tables.
Rugs can join the seating order or come on their own. Stock rugs run from 31.5 × 79 in (80 × 200 cm) up to 79 × 118 in (200 × 300 cm), not every size in every design, and a rug can be made to your room's size as well.
Armrests and matching pillows belong to the seating quote, in two styles of armrest, and the designer spaces them along the runs, from a handful on a small L to half a dozen or more on a large U.
