Across three walls, the Afghan Gul U-shaped floor sofa set seats eight or nine adults on three 75 × 27.5 in (190 × 70 cm) seat cushions, with six backrests, two corner backrests and three armrest bolsters. Octagonal guls repeat across all six 37.5 × 16 × 4 in (95 × 40 × 10 cm) backrests, above a plain band that borders the base of each seat.

Cushions are pressed, rolled and vacuum-sealed for shipping and spring back to full size once you open them; they can't be re-compressed at home.

Your set ships in several boxes, typically two or three for an L-shape and more for larger layouts, and they may arrive on different days.

Every box gets its own tracking number, emailed as soon as your order ships.

Each shipment travels with a commercial invoice that lists the goods, their value, weight and materials.

Care

Covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle with a mild detergent; avoid heat, which can shrink them.

Questions buyers ask

For a U-shaped majlis, why does the middle seat come out shorter than my back wall?

Each corner of a U uses about one seat depth, roughly 27.5 in (70 cm), counted once. Either the back run takes the full wall and each side loses 27.5 in (70 cm), or the sides run into the corners and the back loses 55 in (140 cm).

How many boxes will my floor sofa or majlis set arrive in, and will they come together?

A set travels in several boxes, and the boxes can arrive on different days. Each has its own tracking number. Check the Afghan Gul component list against the separate parcel records before treating an unreceived item as missing; the number of boxes is confirmed for the actual order.

What footprint does a standard Afghan Gul U cover?

Picture a sketch with three lines: about 75 in (190 cm) on each side wall and 130 in (330 cm) across the back. Together they give roughly 224 in (570 cm) of seating. Each corner costs one seat depth, about 27.5 in (70 cm), because the seat on the other run already fills it.

On paper, I mark the door first, since a U leaves only one side open. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval.

How does the Afghan Gul U compare with a traditional toshak room?

The name traces back to gol, the Persian word for flower, given to the octagonal medallions of Turkmen rugs. The Afghan Gul pattern repeats them along three walls in gold, maroon or navy blue.

The layout echoes an Afghan sitting room. Each seat, though, is a foam insert in a zippered cover rather than a stuffed Afghan toshak mattress. The fabric is an indoor upholstery weave. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.

What should you measure before asking for an Afghan Gul U layout?

Run the tape along the floor of the back wall, then each side wall.
Add the door swing and any radiator to the sketch.
Count the people on an ordinary evening and on the busiest one.

Can the Afghan Gul U take a fourth seat for a long back wall?

Single seats, backrests and armrests in the same gul weave can be ordered any time, so a long back wall can take an extra seat. Check that each piece names the same model and colorway.

Can the Afghan Gul U leave one side open for the door?

A U is planned for three walls with the opening on the fourth, usually at the door. If a door sits on one of the three walls, a side run can stop short of it.
