Star Royal Jalsah
Arabic Majlis · L & U
Handmade in Istanbul
The Elegance Royal Jalsah is an ivory damask majlis made to your wall lengths, with damask seat cushions on channel-stitched ivory bases edged in polished gold strips. Box armrests with marble-look tops close each run, while the damask stays tone on tone, a woven pattern in ivory on ivory.
The full piece list with sizes is below.
Cushions are pressed, rolled and vacuum-sealed for shipping and spring back to full size once you open them; they can't be re-compressed at home.
Your set ships in several boxes, typically two or three for an L-shape and more for larger layouts, and they may arrive on different days.
Every box gets its own tracking number, emailed as soon as your order ships.
Each shipment travels with a commercial invoice that lists the goods, their value, weight and materials.
Covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle with a mild detergent; avoid heat, which can shrink them.
Photographed in ivory.

Woven and printed patterns can only be made in the colorways that fabric is produced in, so a pattern usually cannot switch to a brand-new color. When the shade you want is missing, plain velvet in almost any color is the usual route, or plain seats with the pattern kept on the backrests.

Leave a little space at the end of each wall, because the foam cushions forgive a measuring difference of up to about 2 in (5 cm). Give the full corner-to-corner length of the wall, and the layout drawing shows how it is shared into seat pieces before anything is cut.

If someone at home finds low seats hard to get up from, choose 12 in (30 cm) or the 16 in (40 cm) sofa-height option; 4 in (10 cm) to 8 in (20 cm) suits a classic floor-style room or a prayer room.
| Seat height | Height from the floor | Sits like |
|---|---|---|
| 4 in (10 cm) | 10 of 40 cm | Classic floor-style seating |
| 8 in (20 cm) | 20 of 40 cm | The usual low seat, close to the floor |
| 12 in (30 cm) | 30 of 40 cm | Easier to get up from than a low seat |
| 16 in (40 cm) | 40 of 40 cm | About the seat height of a regular sofa |
Most raised majlis designs can also be made at 8 in (20 cm), keeping the same look at half the height.
The seat foam is firm to medium-firm; softer or firmer filling can be requested.
A custom majlis quote covers seat cushions, backrests, two styles of armrest and matching pillows, all with covers and filling; tables, rugs and curtains are separate add-ons.
Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule.
| Part | Quantity | Measurement |
|---|---|---|
| Damask seat cushion on a channel-stitched base | Enough to fill each wall | Around 29.5 in (75 cm) deep, no piece over 75 in (190 cm) |
| Backrest | Divided evenly over the seats | Matched to each seat length |
| Box armrest with gold trim | Usually one where a run ends | Shown with a marble-look top |
| Square damask pillow | Set out on the drawing | Small throw size |
The oval center table, the gold paisley rug and the fringed curtains in the photos dress the room and are quoted separately if you want them. Of the made-to-measure Arabic majlis designs in the range, this is one of the quietest, with the gold kept to straight lines and the pattern left almost white.
Every wall is shared out in equal seat pieces no longer than 75 in (190 cm), so a 100 in (254 cm) wall takes two 50 in (127 cm) pieces, which keeps the damask aligned along the run. At a corner, the run on the second wall starts one seat depth away from it.
I find a tone-on-tone damask forgiving at the joins, because from across a room it reads as texture rather than as a picture. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval.
Seat heights run 4 in (10 cm), 8 in (20 cm), 12 in (30 cm) or 16 in (40 cm), and a raised build lands at 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) depending on the model, close to the seat of a regular sofa. The base can be all foam or an MDF and wood frame with foam seats.
For a reception room I lean toward the lower 8 in (20 cm), which keeps the long gold lines close to the rug and lets the room feel wider. Seats use high-density polyurethane foam — ask us for the exact density for your build.
Ivory and cream show everyday marks sooner than darker grounds, so I would keep this palette for the room where guests are received and choose a deeper color where the family eats and plays. Plain velvet seats can be picked from the color card; the damask itself comes in its woven colorways.
More ivory, cream and pearl schemes sit among the white and gold majlis designs. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.
My pick for this room is a rug with a quiet border and warm lamps in the corners, so the gold strips glow without competing with the floor.
Wall lengths in feet, inches, meters or centimeters, a rough sketch or a few photos, and the height you want are all the design team needs to start. Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule.
Extra seats, backrests, armrests and covers can be ordered any time, so a second wall can join the room later. Keep the color numbers from your first order, because that is how the design team matches the new pieces.
Cut-outs for floor vents and power outlets can be built into the base, or an airflow section can be planned instead. Mark each vent and outlet on your sketch with its distance from the nearest corner.
Floor seating needs something firm behind each backrest, which is why the drawing places runs against walls. Where a run has to stand free, metal back supports are available on request.
