Premium Custom-Made Jalsah Planned Around a Fireplace

A fireplace in the middle of the main wall is the starting point for the Premium Custom-Made Jalsah, a taupe velvet custom jalsah with gold base trim, rounded armrests and diamond-pattern pillows, planned so its seating stops short of the hearth on each side. Each side is measured on its own, and the seats can sit anywhere from 4 in (10 cm) up to 16 in (40 cm).

Cushions are pressed, rolled and vacuum-sealed for shipping and spring back to full size once you open them; they can't be re-compressed at home.

Your set ships in several boxes, typically two or three for an L-shape and more for larger layouts, and they may arrive on different days.

Every box gets its own tracking number, emailed as soon as your order ships.

Each shipment travels with a commercial invoice that lists the goods, their value, weight and materials.

Care

Covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle with a mild detergent; avoid heat, which can shrink them.

How do the Premium Custom-Made Jalsah runs meet at the corners of the fireplace room?

On an L or U layout, the run on the second wall is shorter by one seat depth, about 29.5 in (75 cm) on this set, because the first run already fills the corner. Measure each side wall in full, and the design team takes that depth off on the layout drawing.

How long does it take to make a custom wooden majlis?

Wooden pieces take longer to make than foam sets — ask us for the current schedule. For the Premium Custom-Made Jalsah, settle the measured runs and the component drawing before production starts. That schedule covers making the pieces, while dispatch and courier transit are later stages that should be reviewed separately for the delivery destination.

How high will you sit?

If someone at home finds low seats hard to get up from, choose 12 in (30 cm) or the 16 in (40 cm) sofa-height option; 4 in (10 cm) to 8 in (20 cm) suits a classic floor-style room or a prayer room.

Most raised majlis designs can also be made at 8 in (20 cm), keeping the same look at half the height.

The dark marble-look nesting tables, the ivory medallion rug and the balloon curtains are styling for the photographed room. Fireplace rooms are planned the same way across our custom Arabic majlis range: the seating ends where the hearth needs open floor.

How are two runs measured when a fireplace splits the wall?

Measure along the floor from each corner to the edge of the fireplace surround.
Write down how far the hearth reaches into the room.
Repeat on the side walls, marking each door and the way it swings.

The fireplace wall goes on my sketch first, since it fixes the length of both runs. Each run is then divided into equal pieces of up to 75 in (190 cm), so a 88 in (224 cm) run becomes two 44 in (112 cm) seats. Foam forgives a difference of about 2 in (5 cm), so leave a little space at each wall end.

From the atelier: A buyer in the US replied to a social media story about a diwan set and sent room measurements: about 91 in (231 cm) from the wall to the fireplace, which she reduced to 88 in (224 cm) to leave roughly 3 in (8 cm) of clearance, and 92 in (234 cm) on the other side, with a rarely used door in the middle of one wall that she was happy to cover. She asked about 10 in (25 cm) cushions, so the team drew 4 in (10 cm), 8 in (20 cm) and 12 in (30 cm) options to compare and designed the L specifically for the room. The first draft was accidentally for 4 in (10 cm) when she expected 12 in (30 cm), and it was corrected. After ordering, the shipment stalled abroad for a while and arrived in separate packages. She called the quality outstanding and said it was worth the wait.

Which seat height works in a living room with a fireplace?

Measure the seat of a chair the family already likes and work back from that number. Wooden-base builds come only at the raised height, while all-foam seats can go as low as 4 in (10 cm). Seats use high-density polyurethane foam — ask us for the exact density for your build.

Can the taupe and gold be matched to the fireplace surround?

The photographed room pairs greige-taupe velvet with a narrow gold lattice strip, chocolate and cream diamond pillows and an ivory rug with a gold medallion. Each of those shades can be swapped using the numbered fabric card.

Neighboring taupe, champagne and sand schemes are collected among the beige majlis designs. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.

What can be changed for an awkward wall, and what cannot?

Height and build follow the room, and every shade can change.
No single seat piece is longer than 75 in (190 cm), so long walls always arrive in sections.

What goes into your first message to the design team?

Sketch the room and write every wall length beside its wall, in one unit.
Add the fireplace width, the hearth depth and each door position.
Note the seat height you prefer.

How many people fit on the runs beside the fireplace?

A 75 in (190 cm) seat piece holds two to three people, so two runs of about 150 in (380 cm) each seat roughly eight guests in comfort, a few more when the room is full.

Can the gold lattice strip go on a different velvet color?

Gold accents are optional on most models, so the strip can go on another velvet from the color card or dropped for a plain base. Ask for the trim and the velvet to be shown together on the layout drawing.

How shallow can the seats beside the hearth be made?

Seat depth is usually about 29.5 in (75 cm) on a custom majlis. For a narrow room it can be reduced to 19.5 in (50 cm)–23.5 in (60 cm), and when the room allows it can be made deeper, up to 33.5 in (85 cm).
