Anatolian Kilim Sedir Bench Majlis with Hooks and Stepped Borders

Hooked diamonds and stepped borders from village kilims cover every cushion of the Anatolian Kilim sedir bench majlis, which lifts floor-style seating onto wooden benches about 16 in (40 cm) high with the cushion in place. Each bench runs 75 in (190 cm), and sets grow from one bench to an L of two or a U of three, in six colorways.

Cushions are pressed, rolled and vacuum-sealed for shipping and spring back to full size once you open them; they can't be re-compressed at home.

Your set ships in several boxes, typically two or three for an L-shape and more for larger layouts, and they may arrive on different days.

Every box gets its own tracking number, emailed as soon as your order ships.

Each shipment travels with a commercial invoice that lists the goods, their value, weight and materials.

Care

Covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle with a mild detergent; avoid heat, which can shrink them.

Questions buyers ask

Can the seat cushions sit on a raised wooden base instead of directly on the floor?

Seat cushions can sit on a raised wooden base or on solid wooden benches, which lifts the seating off the floor and gives a built-in look. The base can include cut-outs where floor or wall AC vents fall, so mark the vents on your measurements.

How deep are the seats, and how far will the seating come out from the wall?

Floor sofa seats are 27.5 in (70 cm) deep and most raised majlis seats about 29.5 in (75 cm), so plan roughly that much floor space out from each seating wall. Give full wall lengths when you measure; the designer handles the corner overlap.

The seat foam is firm to medium-firm; softer or firmer filling can be requested.

The totals count each bench and its seat cushion as two pieces and include one matching rug, which comes with some single sets only. Of the wooden-base seating in our sedir bench majlis collection, this is the set with the strongest village-kilim look.

How much wall do one, two or three benches need?

One bench needs 75 in (190 cm) of wall and about 27.5 in (70 cm) of floor in front of it. A set of three 75 in (190 cm) benches gives about 224 in (570 cm) of seating and seats about six people comfortably.

Frames come in fixed lengths of about 47 in (120 cm), 59 in (150 cm), 71 in (180 cm) and 75 in (190 cm), while the cushions can be cut to suit. Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval. Measure at floor level and again at seat height, because skirting boards steal length.

How high and how firm is the seat on a wooden bench?

With the cushion in place the seat stands about 16 in (40 cm) from the floor, about the height of a regular sofa seat. Wooden-base models are built at about 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) and not lower. Seats use high-density polyurethane foam — ask us for the exact density for your build.

Wood under the seat makes this line firmer than our all-foam sets, and cafés choose it as often as homes. Anyone who finds a floor cushion hard to leave will feel the difference at once.

Which of the six colorways suits your floor?

Anatolian Kilim comes in Blue, Gray, Green, Maroon, Red and Royal Blue; Maroon is shown as a color card only. The weave borrows the hooked diamonds, stepped borders and small star shapes of flat-woven village kilims from Anatolia, and it is a woven kilim-style fabric for indoor rooms. Ask us how the covers on the Sedir Bench line are cleaned.

If a kilim rug already covers the floor, repeat its strongest color. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order. The majlis sample box page explains how swatches travel.

What should you check before ordering the Anatolian Kilim set?

Does each wall take whole benches, or will one run need a shorter frame?
Is there a wall behind every bench for the backrest pillows to lean on?
Which colorway did you see in daylight, and is its name on the order?

Can the Anatolian Kilim bench stand in the middle of a room?

Its backrests are loose pillows that need a wall to lean on, so the bench is planned against a wall. A run with open floor behind it needs a model with a wooden backrest as well as a wooden base.

Is the Maroon Anatolian Kilim colorway available without a photo of a finished bench?

Maroon is offered from the color card, so the shade comes from the fabric itself rather than from a photo of a finished bench. Ask for close-up photos or a swatch of the maroon weave before you confirm it.

Does the word sedir in the name refer to the wood?

In Turkish, sedir names a long seat built along the wall as well as the tree, and here it means the seat. The frame is solid wood; if a particular species matters to you, ask at the quote stage.
