Arabic Sofa and Majlis Seating for Alaska Homes

Only July brings average highs over 64°F (18°C) in Anchorage, which also sees about 78 in (198 cm) of snow a year, so an Arabic sofa in Alaska is an indoor set that earns its place through a long winter. Our Istanbul atelier makes each set for the walls you measure, and the covers unzip for washing when the season finally turns.

Which layout suits a living room used every evening of a long winter?

A straight run on the longest living-room wall can be the whole plan or the first step toward an L or a U, since single pieces can be ordered any time.

Questions buyers ask

The long wall of our living room has a floor vent. Can the seating still go there?
A heated room does not rule it out: the base can carry a cut-out for a floor vent or a power outlet, or an MDF airflow section, so warm air keeps moving once the seating is in place. A run can also stop before a heater. Mark each heater and vent on the sketch with its size and where it sits.
A box arrives in the middle of winter. When can we sit on the cushions?
Cut the bags open within about a week of delivery, then leave the cushions alone for roughly a day; they spring back to full size on their own. They travel pressed and rolled, and they cannot be squeezed back into a bag at home.

Heaters first: how do you send a winter room for a layout?

  1. Begin with the longest run and the heater or vent nearest it, because that is where the run may have to start or stop.
  2. Say whether each number is a wall length or the seating you want; the designer turns walls into seats, not the other way round.
  3. Send one wide photo and one photo per corner, in feet and inches if that is how you measure.

Custom orders start with a layout plan for your approval.

Thick or thin, velvet or linen: what suits a room used every evening?

Pick the thickness by who sits longest: 4 in (10 cm) keeps the traditional floor feel, 8 in (20 cm) is the everyday middle, and 12 in (30 cm) or 16 in (40 cm) lets older relatives stand up easily.

Most ready-size sets wear a tightly woven cotton-polyester cover, while velvet and linen are their own collections, so the choice comes down to the look and the wash routine. Covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle, and a spare set can be ordered any time. The Sedir Bench line is built on a solid pine frame under a kilim-style weave, Yemeni-style sets follow the same wall plan, and a rug can be bought without a set.

How do boxes reach Alaska, and what time is it there?

Boxes may land on different days, and each carries its own tracking number once the order ships. Remote addresses can differ from the lower 48, so delivery to yours is confirmed before you pay.

Delivery to the US and Canada is by tracked express courier — ask us for the current transit estimate.

Long winters shape the plan in Vermont as well, and Hawaii answers the delivery questions for another state outside the lower 48. Our floor sofa sets show the standard ranges.

Is outdoor floor seating worth it with one mild month?

Only July averages above 64°F (18°C), so a porch or deck set is a short summer extra, not the plan. Regular upholstery is made for indoor rooms; for terraces a water-repellent outdoor fabric exists, mostly in plain colors.

Local questions

Is Alaska covered, or only the lower 48?

Alaska addresses can be quoted. Because timing and charges to remote addresses can differ from the lower 48, delivery to yours is confirmed in the quote before you pay, and each box has its own tracking number once the order ships.

Do the covers come off for washing after a winter of daily use?

Covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle with a mild detergent; avoid heat, which can shrink them. Spare covers or single pieces can be ordered any time.

Can the top layer of a stacked seat serve as a guest mattress?

A 8 in (20 cm) seat can be two 4 in (10 cm) cushions stacked, and because the layers are loose the top one can be lifted off and used as a spare floor mattress for a guest.
