How does a standard diwan set differ from a majlis cut to a three-wall room?
A diwan set follows the standard layouts of our floor sofa sets: one 75 in (190 cm) seat for a single, two for an L and three for a U. A majlis is drawn to the room instead, so each wall is divided into equal seats, and at every corner the second run is shorter by about 27.5 in (70 cm), one seat depth.

Questions buyers ask
- What should I check on the layout drawing for a made-to-measure majlis before it goes to production?
- Stand in the doorway and compare the drawing with the room: the longest wall, the door and windows, and the way the corner pieces face. A mirrored drawing, with the long run on the wrong side, is easy to catch on paper and hard to fix in foam. Check the seat height and the armrest count on the same sheet.
- What is this set called, and how big is it?
- A low set along one wall with one long floor cushion, two backrests and two armrests is called a diwan. Its seat cushion is 75 × 27.5 in (190 × 70 cm), 4 in (10 cm) thick as standard or 8 in (20 cm) in the thicker version, and the backrests measure 35.5 × 16 × 4 in (90 × 40 × 10 cm).
Which doors and vents change where a three-wall run stops?
- Mark every door on the three walls first, because a doorway on a long wall decides where a run and its armrest end.
- Take one corner-to-corner number for the back wall, then record how far each side run must reach out from it.
- Note each air vent and power outlet along the walls; the seat base can be cut out around either, and a seat can stop short of anything that must stay open.
- Sketch which wall is longest and on which side the door sits, so the drawing can be compared with the room later.

What does a rainy climate change about a covered porch majlis?
Rain decides each evening more than the calendar does. NOAA's 1991 to 2020 normals give New Orleans about 63 in (161 cm) of precipitation a year. Even so, eight months, February to May and September to December, keep average highs within 64°F (18°C) to 90°F (32°C). January lows average about 46°F (8°C), so winter storage is not part of the routine. That is a long porch season, and I keep outdoor cushions where they can come inside in minutes.
Upholstery for living rooms is not made for the porch. For outdoor use the atelier works with a water-repellent fabric, offered mostly in plain colors. Water-repellent fabric buys you time to wipe, nothing more. After a damp week, take the covers off the foam. Machine-wash them gently at 86°F (30°C) with a mild detergent, air-dry them, and keep them away from heat, which can shrink fabric.

Foam arrives vacuum-packed, so a set can look flat on day one: unpack it within about a week and leave it about a day to regain its shape. It cannot be pressed back into a bag at home.

Is there a gold fabric with fewer shapes on it?
Gold comes in busier and quieter weaves, so ask to see the gold fabrics with small motifs or none, and keep the pattern for the pillows. In a long room a motif repeats many times along the walls, which makes a small one look calmer than it does on a swatch.
Can the seat height still change after I approve the drawing of a made-to-measure majlis?
For a made-to-measure majlis, the model, each measurement, the seat height and the fabric code are all confirmed with you before production, so a change belongs in that confirmation, ideally on a revised drawing. Can I see a set in person in Louisiana before I order?
