How much of a Wisconsin flex room can a standard U cover?
A standard U gives about 224 in (570 cm) of seating along three walls. That fits a mid-size room, but a larger flex room leaves gaps at the corners or at the ends. A made-to-measure plan can run along three or all four walls, with one opening kept for the door.
A flex room often serves as a desk, a TV corner and a guest room in the same week, so I would settle which walls stay clear before thinking about seats. The ACS 5-year census estimates put about two in three Wisconsin housing units in detached houses, which usually leaves real walls to run along, and our guide to Arabic and Yemeni majlis for US homes lists the standard pieces to start from.
| Layout | Seat run | Seat cushions in a standard set | Adults seated |
|---|---|---|---|
| Single wall | One wall, with seats up to 75 in (190 cm) each | 1 | 2 to 3 |
| L-shape | About 75 × 102 in (190 × 260 cm) of floor | 2 | 5 to 6, up to 7 |
| U-shape | About 224 in (570 cm) along three walls | 3 | 8 to 9 |
| Flex room | Every wall except the ones kept clear | Made to measure | Planned wall by wall |

Questions buyers ask
- Is there anywhere in Wisconsin where I can see one of your majlis sets before I order?
- No majlis set is on view anywhere in Wisconsin, because every set is made in Istanbul. A video call can put finished seating and foam on camera. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order. We don't have a showroom; ask us for a sample box or a video call.
- How many people fit on a fully wooden majlis along a 120 in (305 cm) wall?
- A 120 in (305 cm) wall seats about four to five adults, split into equal seats that each stay within 75 in (190 cm). A fully wooden build has a wooden base and backrest and stands at 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) depending on the model, so it can be placed away from the wall.
What should a Wisconsin measuring sketch show before the video call?
- Name the walls that stay clear for a desk, a TV or a doorway, and mark them before anything else.
- Run the tape along the floor from corner to corner on each wall that will take seating, skipping door openings.
- Send the numbers in feet and inches or in meters, whichever you measured in.
- Add any bench frames you want to keep, each with its length, depth and seat height.
- Take a short video of the room if a photo cannot show a corner.
Try the lengths in the majlis planner first, and keep each number beside its wall on the worksheet in our guide to measuring a room for a majlis.
What does a cushion for a wooden bench you already own need from you?
Cushions for a bench you already own are cut to that frame, not to a standard size, so every bench needs its own numbers. Send a photo of each bench with its length, depth and seat height, plus the height and angle of the back if the cushions will lean on it. I would shoot each bench from the front and from the side, because a leaning back says more than a number.
Measure the bare frame, because the cushion adds its own thickness to the seat height. You choose the fabric, and the designer agrees the thickness with you for that frame. A bench longer than 75 in (190 cm) takes two or more equal cushions rather than one long piece.
When should a Wisconsin room use a wooden base instead of all foam?
A wooden base and backrest are the right choice when the seating has to stand in the middle of a room, away from any wall. Wooden-base models are built at 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) depending on the model, so they sit close to the height of a regular sofa.
All-foam seating leans on a wall or another firm surface, and a side with nothing behind it can take metal back supports on request. I would put a wooden run where guests walk behind it, so the back stands on its own and the aisle stays open. The wooden-frame majlis designs show how the frames look.

Which clock matters when planning a majlis delivery to Wisconsin?
Wisconsin keeps Central time, and Istanbul runs 8 hours ahead in summer and 9 hours ahead in winter. Foam is pressed, rolled and vacuum-sealed for the trip, and the set arrives in several boxes. Every box has its own tracking number, and the boxes may land on different days. Delivery to the US and Canada is by tracked express courier — ask us for the current transit estimate.

Import duties for US deliveries are set by US Customs — ask us how they apply to your order before you pay.

Where do Wisconsin's Lebanese, Palestinian and other Arab families show up in the census figures?
Whoever hosts, the seating question is the same: how many guests sit along which wall. The census counts Wisconsin's Arab ancestries one by one.
| Place | What the figures show | Source |
|---|---|---|
| Wisconsin | About 16,506 residents report Arab ancestry, about 0.28% of the state | ACS 5-year |
| Wisconsin | About 24,955 residents counted as Middle Eastern or North African | 2020 Census |
| Wisconsin | Lebanese about 4,382, Other Arab about 3,228, Palestinian about 2,770; Somali about 3,429 counted separately | ACS 5-year |
| Western Wisconsin | Belongs to the Minneapolis-St. Paul metro, which counts about 20,495 residents of Arab ancestry | ACS 5-year |
| Wisconsin homes | 66.2% single-family detached, 67.8% owner-occupied, median year built 1975 | ACS 5-year |
| Milwaukee | January high about 30°F (-1°C), July high about 82°F (28°C), about 49 in (124 cm) of snow a year | Station normals 1991-2020 |
How long is porch weather around Milwaukee, and which fabric belongs outside?
In Milwaukee's 1991 to 2020 station normals, only about five months, from May to September, average highs between 64°F (18°C) and 90°F (32°C), so a Wisconsin porch is a seasonal room and the majlis spends the rest of the year indoors.
A porch needs different cloth from the living room: the atelier uses a water-repellent outdoor fabric there, mostly in plain colors, and keeps the regular fabrics for indoor rooms. Indoors, velvet and linen are separate collections, and a color is chosen from the fabric range for most models.
Local questions
Does a majlis come with curtains, a carpet and a table, or are they separate?
A custom majlis quote covers the seat cushions, backrests, armrests and matching pillows. Tables, rugs and curtains are separate add-ons: curtains are made to measure for each window, so give each width and height, and a rug needs the floor area it should cover. Ordering everything together lets the designer match colors across the whole room.
How is a custom majlis paid for, and can I pay monthly?
Custom orders are paid in stages through a secure payment link — your quote sets out the schedule. Pieces added after the order is placed get their own secure payment link, and an expired link is simply reissued. Ask whether a monthly plan is open to you when you request the quote.
What should I do in the first day after the boxes arrive?
Keep the bags closed until you are ready to place the seating, because pressed foam cannot be re-compressed at home. Once a bag is open, the cushions need about a day to spring back to full size, and the bags should be opened within about a week of delivery.
