Arabic Majlis Seating for Cafés, Coffee Houses and Shisha Cafés

An Arabic majlis for cafes is wall seating that serves guests all day and has to be cleaned and reset at closing time, built as cushions for your contractor's benches or as our wooden-frame benches with cushions included. Faux leather in plain colors suits the busiest seats, armrests between sections let strangers share one run, and cutting starts once you approve the layout.

Questions buyers ask

2 questions

Can you plan the floor seating for my coffee shop from a floor plan?

Coffee-shop seating can be planned straight from your floor plan. Mark the seating zone, the team confirms the outline with you, and the layout comes back built from standard 75 in (190 cm) seats, shorter filler seats, backrests, armrests and pouf pillows. The payment link is issued only after you agree the final plan.

I'm opening a cafe with bench seating along the walls. How many wooden benches will I need?

Divide the wall run by the bench length. Each wooden bench is 75 × 27.5 × 16 in (190 × 70 × 40 cm) with its cushion included, so about 780 in (1980 cm) of wall holds ten at most, and usually nine once a door or corner is taken out. The designer confirms the count on your plan before quoting.

Which of the three cafe setups fits your floor plan?

Watch a cafe at closing time. Chairs go up on the tables, the floor gets mopped, and the seating question turns practical: what wipes down, what moves and what stays fixed. Majlis seating answers it in one of three ways, the same routes our seating for businesses follows from restaurants to community halls.

Questions venues ask

3 questions

Do you send a layout plan so our staff can set the cushions out themselves?

Custom orders come with a layout plan showing where each seat, backrest and corner piece goes. Foam pieces need no assembly: they are numbered at the workshop and simply placed in order.

Can you supply the seating for several cafe branches?

Multi-branch projects work well because every piece is made to a recorded specification. Shortlist the models, then send quantities, fabric choices, floor plans and opening dates for each branch; standard models without custom changes move faster. Ask us about freight options for large and commercial orders.

Our floor is tile and guests sit down and stand up all day. Will the cushions slide?

Loose foam pieces can be moved by anyone who pulls on them, so busy cafes usually set the cushions inside a booth frame or on a wooden platform, or have the contractor fix the base. Tell us which, and the cushions are sized to sit inside the frame.

Should your carpenter build the base, or should the bench come from our atelier?

The first question is who is already working on site. When a contractor is fitting out the room, the bases go in with the counter, and we cut the cushions to match the woodwork once it is finished. When nobody is building, our wooden-frame benches arrive as the base, 75 × 27.5 × 16 in (190 × 70 × 40 cm) each with the cushion included.

The Sedir Bench collection uses pine benches with kilim-patterned cushions and sits firmer than our all-foam sets. Confirm the chosen bench and its cushion fabric on the room drawing before ordering.

How do you measure a finished bench and split a long wall into cushions?

Measure the bench once it is built, not the drawing, and note length, depth and back height bench by bench. A single seat piece is at most 75 in (190 cm) long, so a longer run is divided into equal pieces and the pattern never ends in a short stub.

RunSeat piecesWhy
100 in (254 cm)Two seats of 50 in (127 cm)Equal halves instead of a long piece and a stub
146 in (370 cm)Two seats of 73 in (185 cm)Both pieces stay under the 75 in (190 cm) limit
224 in (570 cm)Three seats of 75 in (190 cm)One full module per section

Seat depth follows the bench: it can be reduced to about 19.5 in (50 cm) to 23.5 in (60 cm), or made deeper, up to about 33.5 in (85 cm).

Planning questions

5 questions

How many guests fit on a 75 in (190 cm) section?

Plan on two to three adults per 75 in (190 cm) seat. I count closer to two where people eat as well as sit. A run of three wooden benches seats about six in comfort, and up to nine on a crowded night.

Cafes also use more armrests than homes. An armrest between seats turns a long bench into separate places, so a stranger can sit beside a group without asking, and the designer spaces them on the floor plan.

Which seat and back fabrics cope with coffee, tea and daily cleaning?

The seat takes most of the rubbing, and faux leather, made in plain colors only, suits the seats that take the most spills. Covers on the foam seating unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle, and a second set lets the busiest seats go into the wash without a gap in the room.

For a yardstick on wear, the Association for Contract Textiles suggests about 20,000 Martindale cycles for general contract upholstery and 40,000 for heavy-duty seating.

What changes for shisha cafes where guests stay for hours?

Sessions run long, so the seat matters more than the table. Low seating at 4 in (10 cm) or 8 in (20 cm) with full backrests suits guests who lean back for the evening, and raised wooden-frame benches suit a room that mixes shisha with meals.

Plan the server's route to the coal station before the seat count, and ask your fire official which distances apply. Full lounge layouts are on our hookah lounge seating page.

A low velvet majlis corner, the kind of seating shisha cafes keep for long evenings.

Which details should the contractor and the fire official see before production?

  • Each bench measured after the woodwork is done: top length, depth and back height above the seat.
  • Whether the cushions sit loose on a platform or inside a frame lip.
  • Doors, columns, outlets and the walkway to the coffee station, on one drawing.
  • Any run with no wall behind it; metal back supports for those sections are available on request.

When a fire official or landlord wants fabric documents, send their written requirement with your first message; the team checks it against each fabric and says plainly if none on the shortlist meets it.

When should a cafe order go in if the opening date is fixed?

Give the opening date in your first message so the team can say plainly whether it can be met. Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule. Wooden pieces take longer to make than foam sets — ask us for the current schedule. Production begins when the layout drawing is signed off and the order is confirmed.

Some owners open with standard floor seating in the first zone and add the custom booths later. Ready-made sets are packed soon after payment — ask us for the current dispatch time.

Project brief

What should the first message about a cafe project include?

  • A floor plan, or photos with a tape measure in the frame, showing every wall.
  • The seat target and the zones: booths, benches, a floor majlis room or a mix.
  • Who builds the bases, and the opening date.
  • Colors to work from: a photo of a pattern you like, your brand palette or the chairs that are staying.

I finish every cafe plan with a guest's-eye check: walk from the door to the farthest seat with a tray in your hands, and see what gets in the way.
