Arabic Majlis for Hotels and Resorts: Lobbies, Suites and Terraces

Arabic majlis for hotels is built to the room it serves: wooden-frame benches at about sofa height for a busy lobby, low floor seating for a suite or a Ramadan lounge, and a separate outdoor fabric for covered terraces. We draw each zone from your plans and list every piece with its size, so a procurement team can sign off one specification.

Questions buyers ask

2 questions

Which majlis build holds up best in a hotel lobby or restaurant where drinks get spilled?

Busy lobbies and hotel restaurants usually do best on firm wooden-frame seating, or on foam seating with zippered covers. On foam seating, covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle; with a spare set, one goes into the wash while the other stays on. For spill-prone corners, faux leather in plain colors or a darker patterned fabric is the practical choice.

We are designers on a hospitality project. Can you make raised, framed sofas in a velvet damask?

Raised, frame-built sofas sit outside the core range of floor seating, wooden-frame majlis and cushions. Send the drawings, seat lengths, fabric references and quantities, and the team says plainly which pieces the existing lines can cover, such as wooden-frame seating at 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) depending on the model.

Which majlis layout suits a lobby, a suite and a terrace?

Picture the lobby when two airport shuttles pull up at once. Guests drop their bags, wait for keys and look for a seat within a few steps of the desk. That moment decides the lobby seating, while the quieter rooms upstairs follow other rules, which is how our commercial majlis projects divide a hotel into zones.

Questions venues ask

3 questions

Can our team sign off the seating without seeing it in person?

Hotel projects are signed off remotely from the Istanbul workshop. A video call puts the fabrics on camera, a dimensioned layout comes back for your approval, and finished pieces are filmed before dispatch. Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order.

Will covers ordered later match the seating we already have?

The model, measurements and fabric code are kept on your order, so later pieces and covers start from the same specification. Spare covers can be ordered any time, and taking one set with the first delivery means a stained cover can be swapped the same day.

Does the atelier install the seating at the hotel?

There is no on-site measuring or installation service. Foam seating arrives ready to use, with each custom piece numbered to match the layout drawing, so hotel staff or your contractor can place it in order. Fixing anything to a wall or floor is work for your own contractor.

Should hotel guests sit at bench height or on the floor?

A hotel usually needs both. Wooden-frame seating is built at 14.5 in (37 cm) to 16 in (40 cm) depending on the model, and at 16 in (40 cm) it sits at about the height of a regular sofa, which suits guests in business clothes and anyone who finds low seats hard to leave.

Seats of 4 in (10 cm) or 8 in (20 cm) belong in a suite, a family majlis or a Ramadan lounge, where guests take their shoes off and stay. The wooden-frame majlis line also sits firmer than foam, right for a lobby and less right for a room where people stretch out. I would keep the lobby at bench height and save the floor for the rooms where guests linger.

What does a hotel quote list for each piece of seating?

A hotel quote works as a specification. It names every component with its size, so a supply company can forward it to its client and an FF&E team can check it line by line.

Planning questions

How do hotel supply companies and design teams order for a client?

Hotel projects often arrive through a supply company, an interior designer or a contractor's procurement team, and each needs a drawing, a component list and a schedule it can pass up the chain.

Send the procurement checklist with the first request, and wall lengths in feet, inches, meters or centimeters, with the unit stated. The team answers the checklist item by item.

Can a Ramadan majlis be packed away after the season and used again?

Across the Gulf, hotels set up seasonal Ramadan tents and majlis lounges for iftar and suhoor gatherings. Floor seating suits that rhythm, because seats, backrests, armrests and pillows come apart and stack.

Keep the pieces in a dry storeroom with their covers zipped on, and allow for full size: once opened, foam cannot be vacuum-packed again. A new pattern for a later season can come as covers alone, cut to the foam you already have.

Associations and event venues follow the same buy, store and reuse cycle, which our majlis for organizations and events page sets out.

Which fabrics suit a lobby used every day, and which suit a pool deck?

Indoors, the choice runs from Turkish velvet and chenille to linen-look weaves, cotton-polyester blends and faux leather in plain colors. Darker patterns near entrances and dining areas hide daily wear better than pale solids.

The regular upholstery fabrics are made for indoor rooms. For a pool deck or an open terrace, our outdoor majlis seating uses a water-repellent fabric, mostly in plain colors. Sun and salt fade every fabric in time, so bring the cushions in when the deck closes for the season.

What should your fire or safety advisor see before a fabric is chosen?

  • The requirement your fire official, insurer or brand standards team has set out.
  • The fabric codes on the shortlist, so each one is checked on its own.
  • Where the seating will stand: lobby, suite, terrace or a temporary Ramadan tent.

Where a fire official, insurer or brand standards team expects fabric documents, include their written requirement in the first request; each shortlisted fabric is checked against it, and the answer is plain if none qualifies.

When should a hotel order be placed for an opening or a new season?

Count back from the day the rooms open. Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule. Wooden pieces take longer to make than foam sets — ask us for the current schedule. The schedule runs from the day you sign off the layout drawing.

Custom orders are photographed and filmed for your approval before they ship.

Project brief

What should a hotel's first request include?

  • The property type and the zones: lobby, suites, terrace, restaurant or a seasonal room.
  • Drawings or wall lengths for each zone, with the unit stated.
  • The number of identical sets, or the seat count per zone.
  • The brand colors or fabric code to match, and the date the seating has to be in place.

A complete first request saves a round of questions, fellow host, and lets the first drawing come back with every piece numbered and sized.
