Arabic Sofas and Majlis Sets for Film, Photo and Podcast Studios

Arabic sofas for film sets are easiest to work with as modular floor seating, because seat cushions, backrests, armrests and pillows are separate pieces that regroup into a living-room majlis, a cafe corner or a tent scene. Each piece is cut and sewn in our Istanbul atelier, and the finished set is shown to you on photos and video before it ships.

Questions buyers ask

2 questions

It's for our podcast and live videos, so it has to look right on camera. Which fabrics and colors work?

On camera, solid velvet seats with contrasting pillows usually read more clearly than busy stripes, and keeping the open side of the set toward the lens stops the frame from looking crowded. Send the camera position and the wall color with your request. Custom orders are photographed and filmed for your approval before they ship. Check the finished color on that video in daylight.

We keep seating as prop inventory. Can you give a per-piece list, and do you sell single pieces?

Every piece can be ordered on its own: seat cushions, backrests, corner backrests, armrests, pouf pillows, rugs and ottoman tables. Ask for an itemized list with your quote and keep it as the inventory sheet. The fabric code stays on your order, so a replacement armrest or cover can be ordered later in the same fabric.

How many looks can one modular majlis order give a set decorator?

On a shoot day the hard part is the reset. Between setups there are minutes, not hours, to turn a living room into a cafe corner, so the seating has to come apart and go back together fast. Floor seating does that because the pieces are loose, and it is the same modular system behind our business seating projects.

L-shapeTwo 75 in (190 cm) seats14 piecesFive to six people
U-shapeThree 75 in (190 cm) seats19 piecesEight to nine people

Each seat is 75 × 27.5 × 4 in (190 × 70 × 10 cm), with armrests of 19.5 × 8 × 8 in (50 × 20 × 20 cm) and pouf pillows of 27.5 × 19.5 in (70 × 50 cm). Three seats bought as a U can also play as an L plus a single sofa, or as two sofas facing each other for an interview setup, and an extra armrest or two closes the open ends.

Questions venues ask

3 questions

Can the set be shipped straight to a studio or a location?

Sets ship in several boxes, typically two or three for an L and more for larger layouts, and the boxes may arrive on different days. Ship to an address where someone can sign, count the boxes against the packing list on arrival, and leave a day in hand before the shoot.

Can we flatten the cushions again to store them after the shoot?

Once the bags are open, the foam can't be pressed flat again at home, so storage has to hold every piece at full size. A dry room indoors, with the covers left on and the itemized list kept beside the set, makes the next production easier to pull together.

Can we see fabric samples before choosing colors for a shoot?

Ask us about fabric swatches and a foam sample before you order. For a quicker first check, the team can show the shortlisted fabrics on a video call in daylight, then confirm the color code you choose on the order.

Planning questions

How do you keep the same look across several shoot days?

Continuity is a fabric question. Solid colors are picked by number from the color card of our majlis fabrics, and the code goes on your order, so a cushion added halfway through a production comes from the same fabric line.

Fabrics are not mixed across collections, so a velvet floor sofa stays velvet from seat to backrest, and the thick kilim-style weave exists only on wooden-frame models. I would pick the seat color first and let the pillows carry the accent, because pillows are the quickest piece to swap between scenes.

Which scenes need a wall behind the seating, and which can stand on their own?

Floor sofas lean on a wall or another firm surface, which suits a living-room or cafe-corner scene built against a flat. A tent scene, or a set dressed in the middle of the stage, needs something behind the backrests. Metal back supports are available on request, and a model with a wooden base and a wooden backrest stands on its own.

How far ahead of the shoot date should the order go in?

Put the shoot date, and the date the set must be on site, in your first message, and the team says plainly whether both can be met. Standard floor cushions are made in batches ahead of orders, which makes them the fast route. Ready-made sets are packed soon after payment — ask us for the current dispatch time.

Production time depends on your layout and the season — ask us for the current schedule. A production that needs one custom piece can start with standard modules and add it when it is ready.

How long do vacuum-packed cushions need before the first take?

Cushions travel pressed, rolled and vacuum-sealed, and they spring back once opened. Open the bags within about a week of delivery, and give the foam about a day to recover its full shape before anyone sits on camera.

Schedule the unpacking for the day before the shoot, not the morning of it. If the set moves on to a second location, book a van that takes every piece at full size.

Project brief

What should a production send with its first request?

  • The shoot or recording date, and the date the set must be on site.
  • The scene: Gulf majlis, Yemeni, Moroccan, a tent or a modern living room.
  • The pieces and quantities, or the layout you want on camera.
  • Which side faces the camera, and any colors or patterns to avoid.
  • Whether the set becomes stock after the shoot or serves one production.
  • The delivery country and state or province.

The art department then gets a piece-by-piece plan with the ready options listed first, which makes the choice between speed and a custom fit an easy one.
