Arabic Majlis in North Carolina for Living Rooms and Coffee Houses

Seat and back cushions alone can be cut to a contractor's drawing, which is how a coffee house with built-in banquettes orders an Arabic majlis in North Carolina, while a family room takes a full L or U floor set sewn to its own walls. Both are made in the Istanbul atelier, and nothing is cut until you agree the drawing.

Is a majlis seat shallower than the Western sofa it replaces?

Majlis seats are shallower than most Western sofas: about 29.5 in (75 cm) on custom and raised builds, against 33 in (84 cm) on a deep sofa. The lesser depth lets you sit upright against the backrest without slumping on a low seat. Guests who like to lean back can have more, and a tight room can have less.

Measure the walls around your present sofas, never the sofas themselves. A majlis runs from corner to corner and keeps a depth of its own. Our Arabic majlis sofa sets list the pieces, and the L-shaped majlis sizes show what two walls take.

Questions buyers ask

Does the atelier have a US branch where I can see the work?
Production and finishing happen in Istanbul; North Carolina has no branch or collection point. A designer goes through fabrics, finished pieces and your own drawing on a video call. Ask us for a design consultation — we can talk through your room on a video call.
How many pieces does an L-shaped majlis of 180 in (457 cm) need?
Walls decide the count, so first say whether 180 in (457 cm) is one wall or two added together. A 180 in (457 cm) wall with a 118 in (300 cm) return takes three equal seats on the long side and two on the short side, because the corner takes 27.5 in (70 cm) off the second run: five seat cushions, ten backrests and one corner backrest.

What should a contractor's banquette drawing show before cushions are cut?

Built banquettes need cushions, not frames, and that is a regular café request. The contractor's drawing leads: its finished lengths, seat depths and back heights become a numbered piece list at the atelier.

  1. Ask the contractor for each bench run's finished length, the seat depth, and how high the back stands.
  2. Mark the ends that meet a wall and the ends that open onto the room.
  3. Put the depth on every line: built benches are rarely the standard 27.5 in (70 cm), and one run may need about 23 in (58 cm).
  4. Ask for the numbered piece list, and check each depth against the drawing before cutting starts.

Dealers and resellers can order display sets as well, and our business seating pages show the café, hall and trade routes.

Which seat height suits a family room, and what does a café bench add?

In a family room, 8 in (20 cm) is the everyday seat. Relatives who find low seats hard to rise from do better at 12 in (30 cm) or 16 in (40 cm), and 16 in (40 cm) is level with a regular sofa seat. Both of those heights are usually made to order.

A built café bench already has its height from the contractor, and the cushion adds its thickness on top. List both numbers separately on the drawing.

Light turquoise or a deeper teal: what do children do to a seat?

A pale turquoise set shows a handprint sooner than a deep teal one, and children find that out first. Covers unzip and can be machine-washed on a gentle 86°F (30°C) cycle, so a mark is a laundry job, not a reason to skip the color. Busy rooms also do well with a pattern, which camouflages everyday wear.

Covers-only sets can be ordered at any time, so a spare set is easy to add later.

How do production and delivery add up when a date cannot move?

Custom seating follows a production calendar. The workshop cuts and sews to the sizes you agreed, and only then do the boxes travel. For a café opening, leave room for the contractor to confirm the final bench sizes, because nothing is cut before the drawing is settled.

If the date cannot move, a stock-size floor set can stand in while the made-to-measure order is built. Ready-made sets are packed soon after payment — ask us for the current dispatch time.

Delivery to the US and Canada is by tracked express courier — ask us for the current transit estimate.

Which Arab communities live in North Carolina, and in what kinds of homes?

Lebanese families form the largest Arab-ancestry group in the state. Egyptian families come next, then a broader Other Arab group that includes Yemeni families. The ACS 5-year estimates count Sudanese, Somali and Afghan residents separately.

When can a North Carolina porch hold floor cushions?

Charlotte has six months with daytime highs from 64°F (18°C) to 90°F (32°C): the spring months from April to June and the autumn months from August to October. A porch set gets those two seasons, not the whole warm stretch. Everyday upholstery waits indoors, and a set that must stay out would use the water-repellent outdoor range, which comes mostly in plain colors.

Local questions

Can a U set with 8 in (20 cm) seats come without the rug?

Sets are sold in steps: sofa only, sofa with rug, sofa with rug and ottoman, and the full set with three pouf pillows. A U without the rug is the sofa-only step. Its 8 in (20 cm) seats can be one solid block or two stacked 4 in (10 cm) layers.

Can tables and curtains ship with the majlis?

Rugs, curtains and table sets can join the majlis order, which lets the colors be matched in one pass. Curtains are made to measure for each window, rugs follow the open floor area, and a table set pairs one large table with four small ones. Each extra is listed separately in the quote.

Does the quote for North Carolina show shipping and import duties?

Delivery costs are shown on your quote before you pay, and the quote also states how import duties apply to your order. Keep the quote with your order confirmation and compare it with the final plan, so the figures and the pieces match.

Which colors do buyers ask for most?

Navy blue, maroon and green are the most requested colors, and most models can be made in any color from the fabric range, with gold accents optional. A numbered color card lets a set be made in a shade that has not been photographed yet.
